Website Visibility for Small Local Businesses

Google Local Searches – Local Visibility

Many small local businesses today want to bring clients from their website. Some rely on local online directories to get exposure for their brick and mortar business. Imagine opening a store in the middle of the desert and not getting business because of the location you picked – almost none. The same is true with a web site. If you don’t drive any traffic to your site, you will get zero results. Your website has to be optimized for the search engine or SEO. The search engines look for certain things in on your website to get a good ranking.

Here are some tips to drive traffic to your web site:

  1. Site Address Visibility- Place your website address (URL) on all printed material used in your store or business such as stationary, business cards, bills, invoices, etc. Your goal is to make your web site address as visible as possible.
  2. Advertising Exposure- Your web site address needs to be placed on all of your advertising such as print ads and yellow page advertising. The approach here is to use an integrated approach to advertising with each promotional approach, whether online or offline, complementing the other.
  3. Internet Article Marketing- Consider writing or having someone write for you, articles for placement on the internet. When articles are written, they can have a link back to your site. One advantage of a link is that if the reader finds the article interesting, they will click on the link and come to your site. Another advantage of the link is that it helps your web site get a higher listing in the search engines.
  4. Website Linking- Request links from other sites to your site. For example, you could request that a site about cake supplier link to a page on your site dealing with party supplies.
  5. Google Local Free Listing- Every local business has an opportunity to get a free listing in Google which includes a Google maps showing directions to your office. To get a free listing, simply search for Google Local and submit your request. You will receive information from Google requesting that you verify the address you have submitted and then Google will list your office and directions to your office.

You should always make sure that whoever builds your website knows about SEO and knows how to promote it in local directories like Google Local for maximum visibility. Let your website be all about you and let it bring you all the clients you need.
