Getting Listed in Google Local Search Results

Getting listed in Google local search is pretty easy. Just create an account in Google Local Business Listing and provide all your business information. In a week they will send you a postcard with your PIN code, and you will need your confirmation that your business is actually located at the address you listed. You will enter your PIN in the URL given in the postcard and you will be in the local search results. It is suggested to the same on other free local search sites like Yahoo and BING.

Now we have determined how to establish a locally relevant result if you are promoting a local professional service. But how would you get a website without a physical location in the top results of Google?

We clearly cannot get into local results, but we indeed can generate our listing in the “relevant results served globally” part of the equation. Some steps to follow to improve your search results are shared bellow:

A user and crawler-friendly website design. The first thing you want to do is make sure your web design is easily accessible, the navigation is instinctive, and your look and feel is consistent throughout the design. In other words, make it impressive, and easy to read. If you cannot make one for yourself, it’s worth the investment to hire a professional web designer.

Semantic Coding. This is a method of coding which uses HTML code to actually describe the content on the page, rather than use irrelevant tags. Once you have your website ready, it’s important that you apply on-page SEO factors such as semantic coding. Also pay attention to on-page SEO ranking factors.

Google Keywords for SEO. Do a trend research about your market. Find both high profile and some long tail keywords.

Perk Up Your Rank on Google Local Search. It was already discussed in this blog a few methods to increase your PageRank and how to improve your Google local search results. Some of these are easy to apply, such as using SEO-friendly URLs, appropriate Title and Meta Tags, optimizing your internal linking structure, etc., and some require more work, such as the off-page SEO factor link building.

Link Building for SEO. In order to establish which results are relevant to any query, Google loves links. Put as many incoming links to your site with appropriate anchor text and title text, and ensure they are from sites related or are relevant to yours. Also don’t be afraid to link out to relevant and respected websites. Google is going to determine a document with several outbound links to related information is more useful to a user’s query than just an out of date page with no links for additional information.

Neither of these is quick nor easy, but don’t be afraid to try again when things did not succeed the first time. If it still does not work on your next try, maybe hiring a professional SEO/SEM service could be another option.

Great headline. If your cookie has a bite-sized action and your reader completes the action, I think two things happen. Their self-confidence goes up (which feels good) and their trust in you increases.
