Google Local Business Online Presence

Google Local Searches – Business Online

Getting your business online increases your exposure so much. If you have a brick-and-mortar business, how much business are you losing because you don’t have an online presence, or your website doesn’t contain enough information to help someone decide to do business with you? Or, if you have a virtual company, what if no one can find you when they conduct a local search of businesses in your industry?

Getting online is the best form of advertising for any local business. Having an online presence as a local business is not even a question anymore. The question is why your local business isn’t online? There are tons of places online that offer free advertising for local businesses; Yelp.com, Google Local Business Center, Yahoo Local Business Center, to name just a few. If you live in a small city, you might want to search for larger cities that are close to your location, or search for a regional name that your area might have. For example, I found more portal sites by using “Southeast Texas” as a search term, rather than an individual city name.

Whether business owners acknowledge it or not, the internet is here to stay, and using the internet to find local businesses has now become mainstream, and will only continue to grow as today’s children and teens, who have been online almost all of their lives, become adults.

Social media can be a great way to get the word out about your company or product. It helps to create exposure and interest from the community.

  • Did you know Facebook has more than 200 million users? Facebook allows you to create free fan pages about your business.
  • LinkedIn is a professional network that includes allowing companies to create profiles.
  • Manage your social networking presence and engage in consistent participation with your connections. Nutshell Mail is a service that brings users a summary of their social network updates to their inbox in a single email delivered to them on their schedule.

Keep an active eye on what is posted on the internet about you and your business. Assume that your clients and prospects are in the know about what is out there. If your reputation is in trouble and you are finding negative or false information, you may need professional assistance to fix the problem.

Small Local Business Can Establish Online Presence

Google Local Searches – Online Presence

For small business owners, there are so many advantages and so few disadvantages to having a website that you can find it difficult to understand why anyone would not have one. Websites are really inexpensive these days, especially if you set up your own site using software like WordPress. You can easily find information online which explains exactly how to go about setting up a hosting account and creating a website with WordPress. With so much scope and opportunity for small businesses to optimize their services for their local market, there is no rhyme or reason why online business generation can not work for you.

To get noticed on Google local, get your business listed in Google Local Business Center. Being listed in Google maps and Google local has quickly surpassed the importance of being listed in business directories such as the yellow pages. Make sure your business shows up when someone searches your business name and keywords related to your business.

Effectively, Google has flipped everyone upside down. So now the market is wide open and local search can be exploited more than ever before. Who you thought was your online competitor yesterday may no longer be your competitor.

Directories also differ by the geographical area they cover. There are the big online directories which cover the entire planet. There are also small local directories which cover only a particular city, or even a particular suburb. Your best bet for marketing your business is to make sure that your business appears in as many directories as possible, especially the ones which appear at the top of the search engine results pages.

Search Engine Optimization for Local Businesses

Google Local Searches – SEO for Local Business

For brick-and-mortar businesses, it is very important to reach out to local customers. It is useless to reach global customers that can’t even visit your business office or store to avail of your products and services. Another reason why local search engine optimization is vital for brick-and-mortar businesses is that there is no way business owners can reach the local market if the information and content of their websites are not designed locally.

Local search marketing is not all about local Google maps. It may be true that Google holds a large chunk of the internet but it doesn’t own cyberspace. A third of it is dominated by local search engines. Social local search is where a big part of the crowd is. Social media is where the real conversations happen. Local social media is very prominent due to the personal views and reviews of the user’s experiences about anything and it may include your products and services. Word of mouth marketing is very effective in social media such as Twitter and Facebook.

An online business is different than a local business. This is where many local business owners miss the mark in marketing their business online. First of all, they do not see the potential of building a website that is a business unto itself. It may be an extension of your local business, but someone half way around the world finding your website online won’t care. Their experience is strictly linked to the experience they have through their mouse and keyboard.

Local SEO is not just about attracting people to your site but pulling the right people who are serious about your business. Think of the keywords a possible client would type if they want to buy a product or get a service. Put yourself in your customer’s shoes as to better understand them.
